Club History

Founded in 2003 utilising funding from the Gay Health Alliance Project, GHAP Badminton Club has continued to develop, going from strength to strength. We are a friendly and social badminton club, open to all members of the LGBT community and others who are positive in their attitude towards the community.  Whilst our name came from the project that set us up; we have rebranded the acronym to stand for Gay, Healthy And Proud.

GHAP are proud of our diverse, fun and vibrant members community. As well as our regular post- badminton socials, we organise regular larger scale social events, such as barbecues, nights out, games nights and our trips abroad.

We have a strong social aspect and GHAP is a place for people to come and enjoy social sport with like-minded people, but also to make friends for life who you can socialise with.

Following our AGM in October 2016, GHAP saw the  adoption of the formal constitution and a newly elected committee to take the club forward over the coming years.

GHAP is predominately a social club, playing with plastic shuttles on a Wednesday and Saturday at Manchester Academy.  However we also field teams in the local badminton leagues, playing competitively with feather shuttlecocks.  All those playing for the league teams have to be full fee-paying members of the club.  Whilst we no longer have an official 'advanced' night, there is an informal feathers practice night on a Tuesday organised by Ross Owen and Christina Constantinou for those who prefer to play with feathers or wish to improve.
